Currency

The Dominican peso is used. The exchange rate fluctuates at about $1 US dollar for $14 Dominican pesos. Major credit cards are honored at most hotels, restaurants and stores. US dollars may be exchanged at the airport and government banks. A pocket calculator can also be helpful when you shop to help convert US dollars to pesos. Please note there may be currency exchange limits upon leaving the country. Check with Turinter, our local representatives in the Dominican Republic, on specific details when you arrive.

Language

Spanish is the official language. English is also widely spoken.

Proof of Citizenship

U.S. citizens require a valid passport or an original birth certificate along with a valid government photo ID. U.S. residents need their green card and a valid passport. A Tourist Card (US$10.00) must be purchased at the airport. Citizens of other countries should contact their closest Dominican Consulate.
