Currency

The Cayman Islands dollar is fixed to the US dollar at US $1.00 CI $.84. In shops the rate of exchange is CI $1.00 US $1.20. Credit cards and traveler's checks are generally accepted. However, when US dollars are given for payment, Cayman dollars are usually given back. A pocket calculator can also be helpful when you shop to help convert U. S. dollars to Cayman Island dollars.

 

Language

The official language is English.

Proof of Citizenship

Acceptable forms of proof of citizenship for U.S. citizens traveling between the U.S. and our International Destinations are a valid passport, OR a certified , state issued birth certificate with raised seal AND a valid government photo ID, (i.e. a driver's license). It is the traveler's responsibility to provide proper documentation. Married women traveling with any documentation in their maiden name must supply a marriage license (a copy is acceptable).

How do I get around?

The most common mode of transportation is the taxi. Car rental is also an option, as well as scooter and motorcycle rental. The needed temporary driver's license can be obtained at the police station or the car rental agency.

This museum is housed in the early 1830's Courts Building and features artifacts showing Grand Cayman's history and unique culture.

Cayman Maritime and Treasure Museum
This museum also focuses on the Cayman Islands' history and culture. It is located in George Town.
