Average Temperature

The weather is warm and sunny year-round with an average daytime high of 75° - 85°F. The nights are usually slightly cooler.

Time Zone

Barbados falls in the Atlantic time zone. Barbados is one hour ahead of US Eastern Standard Time. There is no daylight saving time in Barbados.

Currency

The Barbados Dollar is converted at the rate of $1.98 BDS to $1.00 U.S. The BDS Dollar is fixed to the U.S Dollar and does not fluctuate. Its rate to other currencies fluctuate daily based on their fluctuations relative to the U.S. Dollar. Most establishments will accept travelers cheques, U.S. and Canadian currency. There are many commercial banks that will change most currencies. Major credit cards are widely accepted in Barbados.

Language

English with a broad dialect.

Proof of Citizenship

Acceptable forms of citizenship for U.S. citizens traveling between the U.S. and our International destinations are a valid passport, OR a certified, state issued birth certificate with raised seal AND a valid government photo ID (i.e. a driver's license). It is the traveler's responsibility to provide proper documentation. Married women traveling with any documentation in their maiden name must supply a marriage license (a copy is acceptable).

How do I get around?

Cars, Buses, ZR Vans, Taxis, and Car hires. Barbados has a good

 network of roads which covers the entire island. Traffic drives on the left. There is a speed limit of 60kmph (37mph). Frequent, comprehensive bus coverage of the island. There are many licensed "Mini Vans" that run around the island picking up tourist and locals. You will recognize them by their "ZR" license plate. They have few fixed schedules but there are many of them and service is frequent. Anything from a mini-moke to a limousine may be hired by the hour, day or week.
